ETHEL MERLE ROSS Peacefully on May 15, 2005, our dear mom and grandmother, Ethel Merle Ross (Staples) went to be with the Lord, at the Fisher Personal Care Home, at the age of 96 years. Merle leaves to cherish her memory, her son Alvin (Wanda), of Hodgson, and sons, Adam, Cory and Perry; son-in-law Willie of Arborg; grandchildren, Melody (Norm) Huta and David Weik; great-grandchild Bret Huta; sister-in-law Edith Ross; also numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Merle was predeceased by her husband Mel on May 18, 2000; her daughter Ellen on January 8, 2003; brothers, Bert and Jim Staples; and her sister Jennie Beard. Merle moved with her family to the Hodgson area in 1913. When she was about 17 years old, her mother passed away and she stayed home and cared for her dad, until he told her Merlie, get married and have your own family . Merle used to attend baseball games, picnics and dances, and this is where she met the love of her life, Mel. They were married on September 27, 1933, and settled in the Marble Ridge District, where they raised their two children. Mother always did gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, sewing, quilting and lots of mending. Mother was known for her fresh buns and homemade jam, and everyone knew that her door was always open to those who were passing by. Merle was raised by a praying mother and she herself carried on this practice her whole life. In the early 50s, mother began attending the Hodgson Bible Chapel, where Jake Goertzen was the pastor. After Mel's passing, mom received home care and then she moved to the Fisher Personal Care Home in Fisher Branch. Merle's family would like to thank the home care workers, doctors and staff of the Personal Care Home. God bless you all! For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. Proverbs 4:3 The funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the North Interlake M.M.F. Hall, Hodgson, MB, with Pastor James Thiessen officiating. Interment will follow at the Hodgson Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to: ANDERSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Ashern, Manitoba 1-866-293-4951

  • Is this the Ethel Ross who traveled to so many places and made the movies? If so I loved the movies and think we need more people doing the things she did and making such movies today. - Posted by: Joseph Johnson () on: Mar 22, 2017
